Lima is the capital city of Peru and in the past it was the capital city of the richest viceroyalty in South America. It is the most important city of the country, as well as the political, cultural, and economic center. It is located along the seashore, where the Rimac River flows into the Pacific Ocean, which is why in the past Lima was known as “the pearl of the Pacific.”

In January 18th, 1535, the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro and twelve of his companions founded the city of Lima in the most central and vast valley of the Peruvian coast. It was called “the City of Kings”. Due to its artistic and historical value, Lima has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site and nowadays its most traditional spots and monuments are under restoration.
