1. The Program

The Chanchamayo Valley and its surroundings were the ancient territories of the Asháninka and Yánesha ethnic groups. This province has a semi-tropical climate and it extends from the mountains to the tall evergreen tropical forest. Its main activities are the growing of tea, coffee (it is the first producer nationwide), cacao and fruits, and the cutting of fine woods.

Two of the most visited destinations by tourists within the area are San Ramón and La Merced, because they offer a place to rest and relax and for its close contact with nature. These towns are located along the shores of Chanchamayo River, which gives its name to the wide and generous forest valley buried deep in the eastern side of the Andes.

A number of tours can be done: Cascada El Tirol, a 35m waterfall; El Perezoso Botanic Garden, interesting exhibition of wild flora from the region; and Pampa Hermosa, a beautiful forest with old cedar trees, walnut trees, and lush vegetation, ideal for bird and orchid watchers and from where there is a leck from which you can perfectly watch the national bird, the Peruvian cock-of-the-rock, all year-round.
