Cusco
Cusco is located in the eastern region of Peru, crossing the Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central, which are part of the Andes.
The city of Cusco, the old capital of the Inca Empire, was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Among its cobblestone streets, you discover buildings of Inca architecture, such as the Koricancha and the Palace of Inca Roca, together with colonial buildings showing a baroque-Andean style, such as the Cathedral and the Church of the Company of Jesus. You can also visit the picturesque district of San Blas, where you can find the best artisans' workshops of the region. This magic city has a very lively night life, with plenty coffeehouses, restaurants, and pubs to suit all tastes.
Ten minutes from the city, the huge walls from the Fortress of Sacsayhuamán rise. A few kilometers away, you can find the archaeological sites of Qenko, Pukapukara, and Tambomachay, which are Inca buildings made entirely of stone.
